JUMO SCADA Cloud process management IoT platform (701810) for recording measured water level values
Case study

Remote water level monitoring - how to effectively protect the infrastructure from the threat? Case study

In dynamic hydrological conditions, the rapid identification of rising water levels is not only a matter of measurement precision, but also the safety of the entire technical infrastructure. In this case study, we look at a specific implementation of a remote monitoring system that enables continuous monitoring of water levels in a riverbed and allows automatic response in emergency situations. See how our industrial automation client addressed the risk of embankment erosion and road washout by implementing IoT technology and cloud-based data analysis. You'll read what specific risks he wanted to eliminate, what tools were used and how his daily operations changed after installing a water level monitoring system. Keep reading to learn how to increase infrastructure reliability with smart water level monitoring!

How to prevent embankment erosion and road damage when river water levels rise? The client's challenge

Our client carries out projects in the field of industrial automation, control and measurement technology - primarily in sectors such as water and wastewater management, technical infrastructure and the food industry. In this case, he was particularly concerned with effectively preventing the risks that rising water levels in the riverbed can cause. Excessively high water levels lead to the erosion of dykes, i.e. the gradual leaching of stabilizing material. This, in turn, can result in their weakening, cracking and even complete breakage. For nearby road infrastructure, this means an imminent risk of washout, damage to the pavement or complete destruction of the road, making access or evacuation impossible. The client therefore needed a solution that would allow it to monitor water levels in real time, quickly identify risks and respond before real technical damage and threats to people and property could occur.

How to automate river water level measurement to protect infrastructure? Our solution

In this case, we implemented a solution based on IoT technology and the JUMO Cloud platform. What does it look like in practice? Water level data is collected using a special IoT gateway that automatically communicates with measurement sensors installed at key points in the infrastructure. This liquid level information then goes directly to the JUMO Cloud SCADA software, enabling immediate analysis and real-time data processing. In addition, users can configure individual warning alerts that notify them when certain threshold water levels are exceeded. All data is available in one place, allowing you to easily view measurement history, analyze trends and make quick decisions - no matter where you are at the moment.

JUMO SCADA Cloud process management IoT platform (701810) for recording measured river level values

By collecting data via an IoT gateway and sending it to JUMO Cloud (701810) as a central platform, we make it possible to record measured level values and view them in real time.

How does level measurement automation help protect infrastructure from the effects of surges? Customer benefits

The most important benefit for the client turned out to be the ability to detect potential threats early. With alerts sent as soon as water levels exceeded a set level, the company gained valuable time to react before the situation became dangerous. This translated directly into a higher level of safety for road and security infrastructure. In addition, automatic data analysis has significantly reduced the need for continuous manual monitoring of water levels, which has increased overall operational efficiency. All necessary information is now available in one place, and can be accessed from any mobile device or computer. As a result, infrastructure management has become simpler, faster and definitely more efficient.
